Why do we need to professionalise the major events industry?

James Bulley and Paul May shared at SportAccord today how Trivandi is collaborating with leading industry organisations to professionalise the quality, advice, competency and standards of major event delivery.

Their conversation at Speakers’ Corner with David Eades covered some of the existing challenges in the industry, including:

• There has been little progression over the last 20 years in the way events are delivered.
• A number of events have failed in terms of achieving successful outcomes, running over budget, or crowd management challenges
• You can plan and operate major events without any qualifications
• There’s no regulatory body assessing the competency of major events professionals
• There’s no professional institution for the events industry, as per other industries such as accountancy, engineering, surveying etc.

James and Paul then revealed some ground-breaking initiatives that Trivandi is leading to overcome these challenges and professionalise the industry, including:

• The development of a training academy for major event professionals, devised in partnership with event experts and university professors
• The development of an international standard, or series of standards, in major event delivery
• The formation of an international institute for major event professionals.

Implementing these initiatives will require the entire ecosystem to come together. Trivandi would love to hear from other event leaders, professionals and organisations that would be interested in working together to drive this forward. Please do contact us on info@trivandi.com.
