TRIVANDI LAUNCHES TRAINING ACADEMY FOR MAJOR EVENT PROFESSIONALS

CMI-Accredited ‘Major Events 101’ rolls out as the first module of its kind in the industry

Trivandi has launched a training and educational Academy for the major events industry with the roll-out of its first academic module, Major Events 101. The module is the first of its kind to be developed and delivered by practicing industry-leaders and university professors. It provides a solid grounding in the planning and operations of complex world class events and is Level 3 accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

The Trivandi Academy aims to professionalise the major events industry through education, training and innovation. This will be achieved through certified training courses that will up-skill both prospective and established major event professionals as they prepare to deliver complex major events, as well as through research, thought leadership and the sharing of knowledge, learnings and insights that support the continual improvement of the major events industry.

Commenting on the launch of the Academy, CEO of Trivandi, James Bulley, said:

We are really excited to launch the Trivandi Academy. It provides a unique opportunity to share our team’s in-depth experience of planning and operating more than 260 global major events over the last decade, together with the knowledge and expertise of over 2,000 subject matter experts in our network. This will support us on Trivandi’s mission to continually improve the quality, standards and sustainability of major event delivery and operations. It will also increase the talent pool of industry experts in nations hosting major events through best-in-class training, and leave behind a lasting human legacy of industry know-how.

Trivandi on the ground delivering major events

Major Events 101 has been developed by Trivandi’s specialist events team and Associate Network, in partnership with Dr Mike Duignan, Ph.D., a highly experienced university professor and expert in the economics and social impacts of events and festivals. Mike has provided the academic oversight of the 60-hour, online, flexible learning course, which covers the entire event lifecycle from bidding, to planning and delivery, to evaluation and dissolution.

The Major Events 101 course content brings the theory to life through authentic, real-life examples shared in over 30 video interviews with seasoned major event experts. These include Lord Paul Deighton, CEO of the London Organising Committee of the London 2012 Games, Piers Shepperd, Technical Director of multiple major ceremonies, Mark Camley, Executive Director at the London Legacy Development Corporation, and Giles Long, TV Presenter, motivational speaker and inventor of Paralympic classification graphics system LEXI, amongst many others.

Lord Paul Deighton said:

“When we delivered the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, many of us hadn’t worked on such large-scale, major events before and we had to learn as we went along. Major Events 101 is an excellent opportunity to fast-track the knowledge and understanding of event leaders and professionals involved in every stage of delivering complex events. I highly recommend participation whatever your role or experience level.”

Major Events 101 aims to engage, excite and inspire industry professionals as they prepare to deliver highly complex, challenging and high-profile projects. Course content focuses on the processes, systems and operational approaches to planning and operating major events and venues. The key topics covered include, strategy & bidding, governance, event masterplanning, procurement, stakeholder & community engagement, operational planning & readiness, event delivery, and evaluation & legacy.

Dr Mike Duignan, who has recently joined Trivandi on a full-time basis as Director of Research, Intelligence & Education, commented:

“Major Events 101 is unique because it provides a snapshot into the complex processes involved in bringing a major event to life. Participants can hear directly from industry experts who talk about their own experiences, reflect on what did and did not go well, and share how we make events not just more operationally efficient, but also better for people, better for the venues, and more aligned to stakeholders. We hope it will explain to participants more about how their function relates to the broader areas of putting together a major event, and will inspire them to think about how they can improve in their own roles.”

Newly appointed Trivandi Academy Director, Alison Giles, who will oversee the development of the Academy, said:

"The launch of the Trivandi Academy is a truly exciting moment for the major events industry. This is just the starting point as we embark on our journey to help professionalise the world of major events. To improve and protect our industry, which we love so much, we believe there needs to be more relevant and accessible education programmes, a professional body to represent event professionals internationally, and recognised event standards developed for major events. We are looking forward to working with our industry colleagues to create a better ecosystem and improve the way major events are delivered for the better.”

Major Events 101 has kicked-off with its first cohort this week and will become open to further applicants in the near future. Participants will receive a CMI Level 3 certificate at the end of the module, counting for 60 credits towards a future diploma, and eventually a bachelor’s or master’s degree, with further information to follow in due course. People and companies can register their interest for future intakes of the module at www.trivandi.com/academy.
